Devotional
This song declares that Jesus alone is worthy — worthy of every song, every breath, and every act of devotion.
It invites us to remember what we stand upon: the finished work of Christ. In Luke 6:46–49, Jesus spoke of the wise builder who dug deep and laid his foundation upon the rock. When the flood came, the house stood firm because it was anchored to something immovable. So it is with all who build their lives upon Him.
That Rock is Christ — the sure and steadfast foundation of our faith (1 Cor. 3:11). His perfect righteousness, His death for sinners, and His resurrection from the dead form the unshakable ground beneath us.
To build upon Him is not the anxious labor of human effort, but what Scripture calls a restful obedience — the paradox of grace that works from peace, not for it (Heb. 4:9–10). We dig deep not through striving, but through trust; not through our strength, but through surrender. Every promise of security and rest finds its anchor in the person of Christ Himself. When we see Him clearly, our hearts find peace. He is the One who:
Is worthy of every song we could ever sing (Rev. 5:12)
Redeemed us by His blood (Rev. 5:9)
Is holy and without sin (Heb. 4:15)
Is the firm foundation that cannot be shaken (Isa. 28:16)
When we sing, “I will build my life upon Your love,”we’re not pledging to earn His favor — we’re resting in the reality that His love has already secured us. Worship becomes our response to His finished work: a confession that Christ’s faithfulness holds us fast when everything else gives way (Rom. 5:8; Phil. 2:8–9).
This song is an anthem of assurance. It reminds us that our foundation is not our performance, but a Person — the One who is holy, the One who is worthy, the One who cannot be moved.
And if you’re reading this and have not yet trusted in Jesus as your foundation, know that He invites you even now to partake in His rest — to lay down every burden and find peace for your soul in Him (Matt. 11:28–29).
Christ is our firm foundation.
He is holy.
He is worthy.
And when our lives are built on Him, we will not be shaken.
